About Our Club

TeamGenius.

Paul Robeson Chess Club is a non-profit 501c3 organization that has been cultivating its trademark brand of "SERIOUS CHESS" since its inception in December 2005. PRCC, also nicknamed TeamGENIUS, has long been recognized as the premiere scholastic chess club in Pennsylvania, with an established reputation of academic and competitive chess excellence, as well as support, advocacy, instruction, mentorship, and sponsorship of numerous Philadelphia school and club chess teams.

TeamGENIUS has earned more than 120 State Scholastic Chess Championships trophies (including 17 Top Club Trophies), and more than 25 National Chess Championships trophies since 2008.

We currently have more than 75 active students, aged 3-17; almost half of them participate in our practice sessions and/or Developmental Tournaments at the Public Library. Some of our unique strengths are our extraordinary youth, depth, and culture of Community over competition. Our program is impacting the students, families, community and the future possibilities for our city, state and nation.

We are currently planning and raising funds to send Travel Teams to:

Here are some of our previous results from championship tournaments :

2021 US Chess Junior Grand Prix 13th annual World Open Under 13 Championship

June 28-29

  • After more than 14 months of cancellations due to a global pandemic, PRCC competed in its first tournament (in-person!!!)

  • Six TeamGENIUS members played in this two-day youth event. Half of the group had very little prior tournament experience. Amazingly, one of our Families decided to drive 4+ hours each way so that their GENIUS could play in his first-ever tournament!

  • Although students and coach were a bit "rusty", the students demonstrated great ownership, independence and teamwork. All six players scored points in multiple games.

  • We are pleased to introduce our latest tournament section champion. Congratulations to all of our players and their Families!!
